However, the remainder of the series was filmed on the CBS studio center's back lot (old republic studios), which had been built in 1964. This location was only about 800 yards from the freeway.

Bob Denver often wore a wet suit under his clothes to combat the cold temperature. During the summer months, the lagoon would become stagnant. While "Gilligan's Island" appeared to be filmed on an island, it was not. According to the Los Angeles Times, the lagoon set was located on CBS's studio city lot, after all.
